I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving! I spent turkey day with my large, immediate family of 7 (siblings and parents) and grandmother in Melbourne, Florida. My plans for the long weekend includes getting started on the daunting task of Christmas shopping.
This season it seems as though everyone is coveting velvet! It is a perfect match for the holiday with it’s warm, soft texture and slight sheen—but it’s so dressy, right? Not necessarily. Some of you may, like I initially did, feel perplexed on how to incorporate this traditionally elegant fabric into their everyday wardrobe.
For starters: Choose a Vibrantly-hued Velvet Piece
As you can see, I’ve styled a rich pink velvet midi skirt for today’s look. A vibrant color keeps the look playful, and therefore not too dressy. The skirt I’m wearing is sold out, but I found you a similar one here.
A velvet skirt happens to also be my favorite way to showcase this trend (so I have included several other options you can shop below!)
You can, of course, choose a different velvet staple, such as pants or leggings. This pretty texture is also great as a slip dress or cami—especially when layered (more details of on this below).
Mix with Neutrals
While vibrancy keeps the look fun and care-free, the neutral color tones down the boldness a bit, helping to keep things casual.
If you opt for a velvet dress, make sure it’s one you can layer since we’re trying to achieve a casual look. A slip dress layered with a neutral-toned thermal works well. If you decide to go with a top made of this fabric, try wearing it with easygoing denim to give everything an off-duty appeal (with a neutral pair, of course). I also like layering these cami’s with a black or white long-sleeved tee, or thermal.
Pair with Sneakers
If you haven’t jumped on the sneaker trend yet, what better look to try it out on. Be bold and try pairing a cool pair of sneakers with your velvet. You’ll be pleasantly suprised at the result. Sneakers dramatically increase the wearability of the luxe fabric, and the comfort factor is an added bonus!
What do you think? Woils you rock a casual velvet look like this, or do you prefer to wear velvet more traditionally? Both ways are pretty fabulous in my humble opinion! Thank you very much for stopping by, and please stop by again soon.
